common questions about our exotic pet care services in oakland, california

  • are you a licensed veterinary technician?
Yes! I am a Registered Veterinary Technician, and I am credentialed in the states of California and Oregon. I have been employed in the veterinary field since 1992 and have extensive experience with exotic animals and wildlife. I am very comfortable administering oral and topical medications and subcutaneous fluids or injections. *Please note: As a Registered Veterinary Technician, I am legally not permitted to make a diagnosis or prognosis of a medical condition of your pet, prescribe medications, or perform medical procedures or surgery on your pet. I am able to provide treatments and administer medications to your pet that have been prescribed by your veterinarian. I am highly trained in recognizing signs of illness in exotic animals, and if needed, I am happy to provide referrals to veterinarians in the local area who regularly see birds, reptiles and exotic pets.
  • are you insured?
Yes! We are insured and bonded through Business Insurers of the Carolinas.

  • what is a meet and greet?
A Meet and Greet is a 30-45 minute meeting in your home to meet your pets, go over their care and discuss final details. We also require that you have a tested key available at this meeting that we can take with us. There is no charge for this meeting.
  • do you provide pet sitting services for dogs or dog walking services?
While we LOVE dogs, our focus is on birds, reptiles, invertebrates, 'pocket pets' such as rats, guinea pigs and chinchillas, hedgehogs, ferrets and other exotic pets. We also care for cats if they are in the same household as exotic pets.
  • do you offer overnight pet sitting services in my home?
We do not offer overnight pet sitting services in your home. We may be available for extended visits at an hourly rate during business hours. Please contact us for more information and to check availability.
  • do you offer boarding services?
We are able to offer boarding services in our home for certain small animals such as guinea pigs, rats, hamsters, small birds and certain reptiles. We are unable to board rabbits or cats. Space is limited and we recommend booking your boarding dates as far in advance as possible.
  • how you will access my home?
We require a tested key at the Meet and Greet appointment that we can take with us. If you do not have one available to take with us, the fee for us to return to pick up a key is $35. We strongly recommend having a lockbox on your property with a backup key. We do not accept garage door openers to access your home.
  • do you offer every other day visits?
For the health and safety of your pet and the security of your home, we do not offer every other day visits.
